Tom starting his ringing career in 1978 when his church choir director, (wife Janet) pleaded with him to ring the bass bells. He was reluctant, but tried and got hooked! He is a founding member of KR and also rings in the choir at Paw Paw United Methodist Church. In his professional life, Tom is a professor in the Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University.

His hobbies include golf, reading science fiction, and landscaping his home. He and Jan have two grown daughters who both live in New York City.
